This is a true story of a Korean woman who had been in a vegetative state due to terminal brain cancer with little chance of recovery but was miraculously cured by the Grace of Virgin Mary.

If you or your familiar person were diagnosed as having a fatal disease such as terminal cancer, what would you do?

Some people may helplessly wait for death to come.

Others may pray to God.

But, skeptical people may think about miracles.

There is no such thing as miracles in the world!

It’s useless to pray to God!

It may be hard to believe, but there are actually miracles in this world, at least in Akita, Japan.

In this post, I would like to introduce the miraculous cure of a Korean woman in a vegetative state who had been diagnosed as having terminal brain cancer with no chance of recovery.

Our Lady of Akita, a miraculous wooden statue that wept 101 times.

The Miracle of Our Lady of Akita

The following story is based on the book “Akita: The Tears and Message of Mary” written by Father Teiji Yasuda (1916 – 2013), chaplain of the convent in Akita, Japan.

Father Teiji Yasuda (1916 – 2013)

In this book, Father Yasuda introduced “Our Lady of Akita,” a miraculous wooden statue of the Holy Mother Mary that wept 101 times and shed blood from its hand.

It may be hard to believe, but on March 14, 1989, the Most Rev. John Shojiro Ito (1909-1993), retired Bishop of Niigata approved this book in the following words:

I recommend this book and testify that its contents are true.

Bishop of Niigata, the Most Rev. John Shojiro Ito (1909-1993).

Actually, the weeping and bleeding statue of the Virgin Mary was so miraculous that it was broadcast on Japanese national television.

Furthermore, it gained notice with the miraculous healing of hearing loss of Sister Sasagawa who received messages from the Blessed Virgin.

Therefore, it was a miracle happened to an obscure convent in Akita.

A Korean Woman Was Diagnosed with Terminal Brain Cancer

On October 15, 1983, Korean pilgrims led by Father Oh Ki Saun came to Yuzawadai, Akita, Japan.

Among the pilgrims was Ms. Theresa Chun and her elder sister.

Ms. Theresa Chun was 46 years old woman living in South Korea.

Amazingly, she had been in a vegetative state due to terminal brain cancer but was miraculously cured by the grace of Our Lady of Akita.

Ms. Theresa Chun was completely cured by a miracle of Our Lady of Akita

On July 3, 1981, she suddenly collapsed due to an illness.

Then, on the following day, July 4, she had a medical examination of Dr. Kim Jang Je of the hospital of the Catholic University of Gyonghwi in Seoul.

The result showed that she was already severely malnourished.

Ever worse, she was also diagnosed with brain cancer with little chance of recovery.

So, the doctor gave up on her and she was allowed to go home, because there was nothing that the doctor could do for a terminal cancer patient like her.

In this way, Ms. Chun was hopeless of any recovery and thus she was just waiting for death to come.

Prayers to Our Lady of Akita

By the way, the elder sister of Ms. Chun had been baptized a Catholic on April 11, 1981.

At that time, the elder sister was still in the early days after the baptism.

So, she was completely ignorant of the miracle of Our Lady of Akita and thus she had not seen even the photo of the wooden statue.

After leaving the hospital, she carried Ms. Chun with godmother to the eldest sister who was one year older.

In the eldest sister’s house, they embraced each other in tears, caring desperately about the fate of Ms. Chun who was diagnosed as having a fatal brain cancer.

Then the eldest sister proposed an alternative treatment.

She should receive acupuncture.

However, Ms. Chun suddenly shouted like a child.

No! Jesus will heal me!

The childish shout struck them as strange, impressing them greatly as if Ms. Shun came down to a child’s level.

As soon as she shouted, Ms. Chun fell into a coma.

Ms. Chun made contact with Our Lady of Akita through Father Oh Ki Saun.

Father Oh had come to Akita for the first time on May 26, 1979.

Then he happened to receive the grace to witness the tears of the statue of Virgin Mary.

It lasted a short time from 4:30 p.m. to 5:10 p.m., but it had a strong impact on Father Oh and he felt the significance of his meeting with the Our Lady of Akita.

Then he brought many pictures of the tears of the statue to Korea and distributed them to members of the Legion of Mary and the other faithful people to Virgin Mary.

Among them were the elder sister and the godmother of Ms. Chun.

At that time, Ms. Chun had entered a vegetative state.

So, they put their last hope on the help of Our Lady of Akita.

They had the picture of the weeping statue of Virgin Mary of Akita put up at Ms. Chun’s bedside and gave prayers to Our Lady of Akita.

They prayed fervently that God bless Ms. Chun and heal her through the arrangement of the Virgin Mary of Akita.

From that day on, through their acquaintances and friends, they called on all kinds of people to save Ms. Chun and a group was formed to pray fervently for the cure of Ms. Chun.

Especially the people close to Ms. Chun went on a fast and prayed for the sick person sitting around her for 40 days.

As a result, what happened to Ms. Chun?

Amazingly, Our Lady appeared to Ms. Chun three times over six months!

The 1st Apparition of Virgin Mary

At 3:00 a.m. on August 4, 1981, Virgin Mary appeared to Ms. Chun in a coma.

The Virgin Mary wore a golden garment and held a lamb to Her heart.

Then She breathed three times on the forehead of Ms. Chun in her sleep.

The breath was so sharp, hot and hard that Ms. Chun saw the fur of the lamb lying on the chest of the Virgin Mary fluttered violently and it was shaking fluffy.

According to the elder sister who stayed by Ms. Chun’s bedside at that time, she heard the sick person cry out in a coma,

Lamb!

Lamb!

Lamb!

Then, Ms. Chun fell into coma again after leaving the words behind.

But the elder sister had no idea what it meant to then.

Later, when the elder sister asked Ms. Chun about it, she understood the meaning for the first time.

The 2nd Apparition of Virgin Mary

The second apparition was at 5:00 a.m. on August 15, 1981.

The Virgin Mary wore the same golden garment as before but did not held the lamb to Her heart.

She said her first words to Ms. Chun,

Let us recite the morning prayer with me.

Then She told her,

Get up, Theresa!

Then the sick person woke up.

Ms. Chun tried to get up soon, but she could not.

The elder sister who stayed by the bedside put her hands on the back of Ms. Chun for support.

So, Ms. Chun finally got up.

But, after that, she still had to get some help from her sister to walk.

The 3rd Apparition of Virgin Mary

The third apparition of the Virgin Mary occurred in the X-ray room of the hospital of Saint Paul.

It occurred on December 9, 1981, when she was lying in a bed to examine whether or not her brain cancer was completely cured through a brain scan.

This time, the Virgin Mary wore a sparkling immaculate white garment which was completely different from that in the preceding apparitions.

Then while looking at Ms. Chun with a smile, she ascended to heaven.

Amazingly, the brain scan showed that her brain cancer had disappeared completely and the state of her brain was in wonderful health!

In this way, the complete cure of her brain cancer was medically proven from a scientific perspective.

After Ms. Chun was recovered, her sister showed her a picture of Our Lady of Lourdes and one of Our Lady of Akita to ask her,

Which Virgin Mary appeared to you?

Ms. Chun pointed her finger at the picture of Our Lady of Akita immediately.

This Virgin Mary of Akita!

Thus, they found out that Our Lady of Akita appeared to Ms. Chun.

The Miraculous Cure of Our Lady of Akita was Accepted by the Vatican

After this miracle, a committee was formed for the canonization of 103 Korean martyrs from March to April, 1983.

The Church of Korea affirmed that the miraculous cure of Ms. Chun was due to Our Lady of Akita.

So, they sent the documents for application of canonization and all of the records in the name of a cardinal and the committee to the Vatican in Rome.

Amazingly, it was accepted by the Vatican and the 103 Korean martyrs were canonized as saints on May 1984.

After that, Ms. Chun had a full and busy life with her husband and four children.

The Miracle of Our Lady of Akita Was Scientifically Proven

By the way, there still may be some people who are skeptical about the miraculous cure of the brain cancer.

However, it is a scientifically proven miracle.

Actually, there are X-ray images of Ms. Chun during the sickness and after the complete cure.

Looking at these images, you can know that a miraculous cure actually happened.

The authenticity of these images is confirmed by Dr. Tong-Woo-Kim of the Hospital of Saint Paul in Seoul who took these images and also by Father Theisen, president of the ecclesiastical tribunal of the archdiocese of Seoul.

Actually, they issued an official attestation certificate.

Then, all of these records have been sent to Rome.

Furthermore, Bishop Ito went to Seoul in 1983 and then interviewed Ms. Chun in person.

After the interview, Bishop Ito confirmed the truth of the miraculous cure of Ms. Chun.
